Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day takes place during National Engineers Week in 2011. WEP's Girl Day program has grown from 95 students its first year (2001) to more than 1,800 1st - 8th grade girls in 2011. Engineering students, staff and industry representatives volunteer in leading hands-on engineering activities and demos at UT's engineering complex.

2011: Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day takes place during National Engineers Week.

Girl Scouts attending Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day in February 2009. In 2009 more than 1,100 1st - 8th grade girls and nearly 400 volunteers participated in the event. Nearly 50% of the participants attending the event were Girl Scouts.

I love the connections that WEP provides and I love that events are primarily female engineers-it ties me closer to my engineering community and establishes strong connections with peers. The work you do is truly inspiring!

At the 2010 university-wide commencement, UT President Bill Powers recognized chemical engineering graduate Janeth Rodriquez of Laredo, Texas. Janeth was commended for her academic performance and mentoring of elementary age students. She works with Dow Chemical and was actively involved with the WEP Office during all of her time here at UT serving as a Peer Assistance Leader (PAL).

2. The WEP Leadership Seminar reinforced the good leadership qualities I have and helped me to improve my weaker ones. I also learned that there are several different leadership styles, so it‚Äôs important to figure out which one is most appropriate for me.

I am grateful for the presence of WEP and the support of women in the sciences. It made a huge difference to me when I was in school and I think modeling that for my daughter has made a difference in her life also.

The WEP office has given me so much richness in my life. I absolutely love being a Freshman Interest Group mentor, and I think that being a mentor has been one of the best gifts of my life too.

I know you put a lot of time every year into the Evening with Industry Banquet, and I just wanted to say thanks. It‚Äôs such an awesome networking tool, and I know it‚Äôs given many of us contacts that we would not have been able to make otherwise.

Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day Activity 'Sink the Ship' in 2002. Girl Day allows 1st - 8th grade girls to explore engineering through hands-on activities. Girl Day received National Engineers Week Award in 2006 for its Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day program.

WE@UT participants explore engineering through hands-on activities. In this Reverse Engineering activity, participants take apart a toy to figure out how it works and redesign it to make it work better.

The GLUE program has been one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had in engineering. It gave me a lot of useful information regarding graduate school, which I had not even considered before I completed this class.
